Mom versus the United States – Part 2

mom heather me

Hello faithful readers and concerned friends and family. It’s officially over! After  being in this country legally for almost 53 years, mom has received her new permanent resident card.

After contacting Congressman Peter King’s office and Representative Tim Bishop’s office and submitting further proof to Homeland Security that mom is indeed 82 years old, she called us on Saturday to say she received a letter in the mail stating she was approved. It stated she would receive her new card within 30 days.

I didn’t want to announce anything until she officially had the card in her hands. She just phoned to say she has received it. I asked her “Are you excited that it’s all over?” She answered “Yes, but my picture doesn’t look so good.” That’s my mom.

She said it was good for 10 years. Hopefully, the next time we go to renew it, it will go smoother.
